Go to the dashboard by logging into GEN using the login link on the upper right of the site. Then click the dashboard link on the black bar that appears (top left). Go to Advanced ads > Ads

Click the ad you want to add as an in-line article ad:

Copy the short code for the ad at the top of the page. You will need this in a future step:  

You can set the layout (left-aligned, centered, etc) on this page. Scroll down to the layout section to do this:

Set the margin for the ad by scrolling down and entering the values in the boxes provided then scroll up and hit the update button:

Go to Advanced Ads > Placements

Find the ad in the list of ad placements. If your ad does not have a placement, you can click the new placement button at the top to create it.

In the item drop down, select the ad from the list of ads that have been created in the Advanced Ads plugin:

Select by new element and fill in the div and div id you want to use for this. It should NOT be an id you are using for anything else. See the proper format below. Copy the the contents of this box, you will need in a future step.

Scroll down and click to save the changes you have made:

Go to Newspaper > Theme Panel > Ads > Article inline ad

Enter the text you copied from the By New Element box and the ad short code from previous steps in the format shown below:  

Next, in the after paragraph box enter the number of paragraphs that should appear ABOVE the ad

Select the ad position in content:

You can leave the next boxes set to auto so GAM/advanced ads can control the ad size. Click the save settings button:

If your ad is turned on in GAM, it will appear on ALL posts under the number of paragraphs you set.
